Every network marketer knows, or should know, that a fundamental requirement for getting recruits is prospecting. But most do not fully understand exactly what prospecting is. Many confuse prospecting with selling.
Prospecting is all about qualifying NOT selling. It's all about finding those who WANT what you have and may also involve determining IF they qualify for what you have. Herein lies one of the HUGE faults with most network marketing training you will receive from your up line.
You see, your up line has likely taught you to tell 3 people you know about your business opportunity, get them involved in your business, and then all they have to do is tell 3 more who they know, and on and on it goes. You are more than likely going to choose the path of least resistance and go to family or friends. And, of course, family and friends make up a very limited number. Problem!
Here's a bigger problem. Just because they know you and like you doesn't mean they necessarily WANT the PRODUCT you're selling. Remember prospecting is finding those who WANT what you have. Additionally, they will ONLY be of advantage to you in your down line if they are productive, if they also know how to find prospects who want what they have.
You will only build a successful networking business if you know how to bring on PRODUCTIVE team members. You need to determine if those you interview will qualify for your time and energy because YOU will have to train THEM if they are going to be productive. Next time I will discuss more about various ways to find more prospects to interview.
